They basically just let you wander around in the water, looking at the cool reefs and fish. The fish particularly like it when the tour operators throw food into the water for them. It's not quite as nice when they throw it right at the swimmers.




One of our snorkeling spots was right off the shore at rich designer Peter Nygard's Bahamian home. It apparently cost tens of millions to build (and was still under construction) and you can read more about it in the April issue of Toronto Life magazine.




The last stop on the snorkeling tour is done further out from shore, where nurse sharks collect around a bait box at the bottom. It's allegedly safe to just float calmly on the surface but neither Emma nor I felt particularly brave, and besides the sun had gone behind some clouds and the water was much colder here. Yeah, that's it. It was too cold. Darn.




These animals are totally conditioned to the regular visits from the tour boat - as soon as the people get out of the water they know to come to the surface. Because that's when they start throwing big hunks of fish in the water ...




... which they enjoy rather energetically.
