![[ Gathering for plans ]](blackout36.jpg)
With the job of getting a special section ready in time to be printed in Montreal and trucked to Ontario done, editors headed back to the 2nd floor newsroom where a work light had been set up to replace the candles. While plans were being made to update the pages with the latest news, the Globe's generator failed and work came to a halt. That's when I left. About half an hour later, the power came back on at 444 Front St, and those still in the building went back to work for more late changes.
I was already taking two people home in my car at that point (I knew the car would come in handy) and then headed back to my place. I was at home only half an hour before power came back for me as well. I didn't have any food in the fridge, gas in the car or cash in my wallet, so it could have been a lot worse.
And that's pretty much it.
