I don't know that we were necessarily eager to go inside the Barcelona cathedral, but the rain and the scaffolding pretty much squelched whatever interest we had left.

So instead we went around the side to a small courtyard with a pond and a gift shop, where some geese expressed their displeasure with the weather.


[ LED votive candles ]

Emma can tell you that I ranted for hours about this -- it's the standard church-issue set of votive candles, along with donation box, but look closer: they're LED CANDLES!!!

Phew, I have to stop and take a moment.

The point of the donation box has always been to pay for the candles, which are supposed to represent a prayer for someone. Setting aside for a moment the notion of making a spiritual symbol out of a 10-cent piece of 21st century technology, how can they cheap out on the candles and STILL EXPECT DONATIONS?!?

Grrr....
