The next morning, back at the conference, John was showing his true colours. Keener!
The Times had asked papers to bring samples of their editions and I had a good look at a
bunch of different papers from around North America. (There weren't as many European
delegates as at last year's conference in Maastricht, for
obvious reasons.) Some of the papers really surprised me with how little use of photos
they make on their inside pages.
At the end of the second day, some of us gathered for a tour of the LA Times building. It
seems to me that newspapers just about everywhere else in the world beside Canada have
had the opportunity to invest in big, impressive buildings. I'm not sure why that's not a
priority in Canada.
