[ Sea Lions ]

One of the harbour tour boats pulls in next to the (in)famous sea lions. They just sit there on those pilings in the middle and bark. All day. Endlessly.

[ Looking back ]

Looking back towards downtown from the pier.

[ Looking forward ]

Looking forward towards tomorrow's visit to Alcatraz.

[ Helicopters ]

The downtown area was buzzed by military helicopters at least three times while I was there, plus once more while I was on Alcatraz. I'm not sure where they were all flying from -- there used to be lots of active military bases in the SF area, but those days are over.

[ Streetcar ]

Running along the main waterfront street is a right-of-way for streetcars. I'm a fan of both reserved streetcar lanes and streetcars themselves since moving to my current location in Toronto and commuting to work on the Spadina streetcars every day. But check out that streetcar! It's very old, and it's not the oldest one they have there.

[ Another streetcar ]

Learn more about their crazy collection of functioning streetcars here.

[ Signs ]

Given how long, flat and uninterrupted the sidewalk is along the waterfront, it's astounding that skateboarding is a crime. Luckily, no one was letting that stop them. (The guy in blue on the left is on a skateboard, you just can't see it. Honest.)
