![[ Touching the jet ]](europe073.jpg)
One of my few childhood memories of Munich (besides buying a lot of Lego)
was of touching something on a jet in the Deutsches Museum and having it pop
out, only to have me find myself unable to get it to pop back in again. Then
a big scary guard walked up and said some threatening things in German,
which of course I didn't understand at all. Then he tried to pop it back in
himself, and also failed. So he shrugged his shoulders, muttered something,
and walked off. Here I gleefully recreate the moment...

A river runs through it. (The Isar, to be precise.)

This is the Friedensengel, the Angel of Peace. It was built to commemorate
the 25 years of peace following the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871.
Ooh, listen to me, Mr. History!
